Saiagricola blows out 30 candles…
and welcomes the Piedmontese Estate Arbiola to the family

Saiagricola celebrates its thirtieth birthday - the coming of maturity - in 2008. At thirty years old, it is time
to cast your mind back over the years and take stock and yet at the same time, to look forward to what
remains to be done and to the increasing weight of responsibilities that comes with the passing of time.
Thirty years may sound like a lot, but they're not really. Certainly the goals we have attained have vindicated
the company's plans which from the outset have combined great foresight with both style and personality.
So that today whenever you speak of “Quality” in Italy, the Saiagricola Group is clearly one of the leading names
in the field.Thirty years of success are not to be discounted easily. The company was set up in 1978 to manage
the various estates belonging to the SAI group: it was a journey born out of the passion, intuition and farsightedness
of Mr. Salvatore Ligresti. Nowadays Saiagricola owns 12.400 acres of land in areas of great repute,
but this remains his creation, built up piece by piece.
The first piece in the jigsaw was Fattoria del Cerro in 1978, joined ten years later by La Poderina (in Brunello
country) underlining the “quality first” objectives of the group.Villetta di
Monterufoli in the Maremma was a 1000 hectare unspoilt game reserve
originally belonging to Count Ugolino delle Gherardesca which became
an experimental station with similarly far-flung boundaries. In 1995
with the purchase of Còlpetrone in the Sagrantino di Montefalco area,we
saw the continuation of this expansion followed by another property in
Umbria, the 2000 hectare Tenuta di Montecorona. This is all without a
mention of Cascina Venerìa, the “spiritual home” of the group, which once
belonged to the monastic order “Gli Umiliati”. SAI took over ownership
in the 1950s from the Agnelli family who had bought and re-built the property
in 1932.
So on closer examination perhaps it should have been more than 70
candles, but why deprive yourself of the pleasure of celebrating a birthday?
And as with all the best birthday celebrations there was a surprise
in store:Tenuta di Arbiola.
Arbiola lies at the head of the Nizza valley in the commune of
Marzano Oliveto on the border between Monferrato and the
Langhe. The property consists of around 25 hectares, planted to barbera,
moscato, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, merlot, sauvignon
blanc, chardonnay and...that's enough! The news finishes here: but
stay tuned to the Saiagricola channel as there will be another
bulletin soon!
